This is my first time experiencing Faulkner, and it's just not for me. The stream of consciousness style is awkward and unenjoyable. Some of the characters are likeable, but not all by any stretch. I think this will be it for me and Faulkner.

I see a lot of moaning and whinging out there about the horrible monotony of this book, but I think it is brilliant! The stream of consciousness style that switches without much warning between characters really puts the reader in the scene. The brilliance is that this book was written in 1930, so while it is not historical fiction, it reads like historical fiction but it is actually true to that place and time because it could not be otherwise. Faulkner's prose is spare and yet so descriptive and beautiful. I just loved it. Faulkner is a true master.

I have been told that this book is supposed to be beautiful somehow. But on Faulkner I just agree with Hemingway, the man is pretentious.
