Atmosphere: 👍
Descriptive through tension and emotion. Even before we find out the MCs house is isolated I could feel it through the writing. This is a very atmospheric book, but not overly detailed so you can have shatter-free imaginings of the environment and setting if you want to.
-Set in an undisclosed Spanish and English speaking region with rural and urban areas.

Main POV: 👍
-A morally grey former butcher and meat processing supply manager from a family that was once involved in the beef industry. Our MC has experienced tragedy and loss of loved ones as well as a global catastrophe that drastically changed every day life, which has left them with a certain numbness. They are a respected person in their working life, but cracks are starting to show.

Cred Rating: 👍🥩🍖
Plausible and realistic within the dystopian world presented. The 'Transition' doesn't require an overly extensive amount of suspended disbelief, which added to the horror for me. The author also realistically presents dissenters and those who disagree with the 'Transition', and how governments and scientists have normalized it so the majority of people are able to 'digest' this new way of living.

Show'n'Tell: 👍
Well balanced. The 'telling' portions describe situations via memories, flashbacks, and explanations. They are well placed within the majority of the book, which is 'showing' the reader...so many things I never wanted to be shown. No comparison to kindergarten show'n'tell for this one, they're busy learning about the four food groups 🥴

Reading Journey:
Stuck in freeway traffic on the way home. It's because of a mangled mess of an accident. Have to pass accident to get home. Hug people/pets/yourself tighter when you finally get home.

Great match if you like:
-thought provoking horror
-social commentary on classism, categorization of humans, vegan and vegetarianism, animal cruelty, factory farming, scientific ethics, and poverty
-symbolism through allegory and metaphors
-stories involving cannibalism with a heavy, bordering on vulgar, tone
-not-too-distant dystopian futures (due to famine...sort of)

Vibes: 🤢😥🥵

Format: Library E-book via Libby

I didn’t enjoy this book. I read it in a day. Yet it will remain with me always.
