A delightful and moving read that feels as much like a love letter to humanity and its diverse ilk as it does a homage to art and the Met. Bringley’s evocative praise of the works of the Old Masters paired with equally weighty praise of the works of folk artisans from Depression-era Alabama underscores the value and almost necessity of appreciating the wide range of emotions poured into art in its various forms. Moreover, he presents a great case for approaching each day and other human perspectives with open honesty, grace, and wonder, something we all certainly could stand to do.
