I have some issues with this story on a number of levels. As a prequel, it doesn't entice me to read the rest of the series. I am aware that this was written after the first book in the Partholon, but it holds no information on the setting, nor does it allude much to the tone of the series. Instead it left me confused as to what this series was even about. However my biggest problem with this is actually an issue I had with Cast's writing in a previous book I had read of hers. The issue I have is that the courtship between the two main characters appears instantaneous. They go from being unaware of each other to in love so quickly that it's a bit of a shock. Now in the previous book I read, because it was a full novel, and not just a novella like 'Divine Beginnings' the courtship felt rushed, but it was still somewhat believable, in this the courtship happens in a matter of hours. Aine goes from believing Tegan killed her friend to lusting after him and unable to live without him all in the same night. This, supposedly after she has been raised to fear his kind all her life. It makes no sense, and the attempt to explain it as part of a mating bond between the pair of them because they shared blood just sounds like pseudo-rape to me, because she was forced into it by him.

This was a really cute prequel to the Partholon series. We get to see a bit more about how the Fomorians began their invasion and how they initially sunk their claws into the land. It also lays the groundwork for the vase and antique show - which actually does clear up a handful of questions that I just gave up on from book one.
The romance is very quick. It's a down and dirty novella so there isn't a lot of time for courting here. But it is still a very sweet one that is quite unexpected. The devotion in the relationship is great and I really enjoyed seeing how the whole realm jumping began.

Well, it was a bit too fast-paced, with everything unfolding so quickly and such, but I would be glad to give it a try and read the series!

For a prequel, this is a fast read and gets straight to the point. I was left feeling confused at the sheer pace of things, Aine goes from hate to intrigue to lust to love in the(seeming) blink of an eye. I wasn't expecting a whole lot, but I did think it would be a bit longer. All in all, a very quick, mildly good read that felt really rushed. Unfortunately, it did little to interest me in the rest of the series; however, I will read it all anyways. :)

I was thrilled to discover this novelette which is a prequel of the Divine series. Brilliant.

I can't comment much on this, as it's the first bit of the series I've read, under 70 pages (which is somehow valued at $2.99 on Amazon?!) and featured a Partholon named Aine at "Guardian Castle" which is supposed to act as some kind of barrier between Partholon and it's Goddess (who is quite chatty and actually shows up) and the Fomorian wastelands, but obviously not is all it appears.
Or, actually, it is, grey, washed out, "evil" verses Partholon forest and vibrant colors, I guess.
Tegan (the Fororian) isn't evil, and Aine has her blood drained from him in a forced/accidental mating/seduction thing that let's them each feel what the other does. In other words he's sort of a demonic winged vampire. Who's skin glows under the light of the moon and who is hurt by the light of the sun.
No real comment on what Aine looks like, so I assume human enough. Tegan calls her "goddess" though.

The book was good, and I hope it's set up the start of the series. I thought it was a bit short, and maybe a little bit rushed. However, the Cast details are there, and I did love that :)
