This is more of a fiction novel than a romance, so I'm shelving it as both. Zapata is queen of the slow burn romance, but she slightly missed the mark here.

Aurora and Rhodes have a slow burn romance, but the culmination of a year and a half plus of hits, misses, and pining culminated in a single scene. So yeah, there was not much romance to be had in this one. I appreciated Aurora's journey to forging a life on her own, but it wore thin once I got about 3/4 of the way through the book. There was a lot of her doing things out of ignorance and people helping her figure things out and/or cope when things went wrong. It's a sweet story, but could have been even better. I laughed out loud while reading, and it was a total page turner. I'm keeping my rating at 4 stars, but it's barely a 4.

I was LOVING this book until it got up to when they finally declare their love for one another and get together. But there was still more chapters that kind of wrapped up everything else, if not already. I felt as if the plot just didn’t become as strong after that point. I think it’s simply because all the plot points even outside the slow burn romance was wrapping up at once and not in the last or next to last chapter and I just started to lose interest.
