Full review to follow but in brief this book pulled me out of a reading funk and made me laugh repeatedly and often. We all need a Gytha "Nanny" Ogg in our lives, and probably an Esme Weatherwax too. I absolutely adore this pair and their crazy adventures.

"Oh you know me, Esme," Said Nanny cheerfully. "I couldn't subtract a fart from a plate of beans."

Behind the walls she could be the Perdita she'd always wanted to be. Perdita didn't care about anything. Perdita got things done. Perdita could wear anything she wanted, Perdita X Nitt, mistress of the darkness, magdalen of cool, could listen in to other people's lives. And never, ever have to have a wonderful personality.

The old woman's ha came p holding a bottle of champagne and then came down hard in an effort to launch the SS Gytha Ogg on to the seas of unconsciousness.

Embarrassment normally came as naturally to Nanny as altruism comes to a cat.

He was up against a mind that regarded truth as a reference point but certainly not as a shackle. Nanny Ogg could think her way through a corkscrew in a tornado without touching the sides.

Sweet, I really liked the feeling of this book. There is something heartwarming about the Witches being a trio again. Feels right. Agathe is a good addition, I am interested to see how she will grow into her role as witch.

I was a little bit wary of this book. Terry is a good deal older then me, so a lot of the parody Discworld books (Moving Pictures, Soul Music) miss the mark for me with their references. Fortunately, this wasn’t a big problem in this book. Terry introduces the opera in such a way that even people unfamiliar with it can understand.
Terry really understood Opera, and it shows in how he utilises it, being able to point out how ridiculous Opera can be without ridiculing the Opera itself. The parallels drawn, references made and ideas used make it feel like a labour of love, mixed with Terry’s signature satire.
