filled with beautiful prose, jack the modernist is a quick-paced book about love desire and its limits. in the book, we receive various vignettes from the life of bob, usually relating to his affair with jack. its interest because for most of this book I found it too proseful, and often boring, but by the end I loved it. much of it is overwritten and very poetic, but I don't really think that is a bad thing. the work is beautiful as I have said, but it understands something deeply about desire, and love that I think many similar books don't, it understands the messiness and pain that comes with loving someone, especially  someone who isn't in the same emotional place as you.
