This book albeit Rooney-esque and the characters insufferable dickheads at times, did tickle my fancy. I liked the prose and overwroughtness (unsure if word).

The certain world of Hong Kong that was illustrated made me feel close to my best friend who spent time there as a beb twenty. I liked imagining we were Ava’s two flatmates who rolled their eyes at her ongoing apathy and unenthusiastic nature to life.

Idk. It's giving My Year of Rest and Relaxation where she keeps complaining about things except this time she only talks about class. She spends 99% of the book picking her clothes, words, and dating partner based on how she'd be perceived in terms of class (I'm not going to say that because it'd make me seem bitter about being poor; I only date men who are richer than me to help me divert my insecurity of being poor, but will also never come to terms with the fact that only dating rich men brings more attention to the fact that I'm poor). This book is written as if anxiety itself were narrating it. She reads too much into things and complains about how she'll be perceived and doesn't even like the people that she fights so hard to gain validation from. She doesn't deserve Edith and I dont understand why she threw that away in order to hold to something that she doesn't want anyways. Maybe I'd appreciate it more if I was more attuned to the politics of Hong Kong, Britain, or Ireland, or maybe I still would've thought it was a boring slop of words anyways. It really reminded me of an off brand Sally Rooney with the extremely slow plot and the infuriating characters who make bad decisions for no particular reason.
