Have you ever read something incredibly confusing and couldn't figure out whether you're just too dumb to get it or the author wrote a bunch of nonsense in order to seem smart, but isn't? Does that even make sense? That's how I feel about this book.

I initially was going to rate this higher but when reflecting about it I couldn’t really justify why? It read smoothly, very Rooney-esque but the characters were irritating af and not in an enjoyable way. Also nothing happened but also lots happened and it felt a bit boring. Not taking away how it was a nice read but left feeling very nonplussed

Idk what it was about this book that made it feel so relatable(?) maybe grounded & realistic (?) Idk but I really liked it. Was funny, sweet and interesting- but most importantly, was written in the half finished sentences that I speak in so heald my attention very well throughout. I really enjoyed.

Also I really hated normal people but loved this- I think this book did everything I wished normal people had done.

Ganska mid och lite udda handling
emotional funny fast-paced

Somewhere between 3.75 and 4 stars. Unfortunately I found the protagonist’s passiveness relatable and detested her because of her poor decisions but also  understood her logic (or lack thereof) in many ways. Honestly the book was really good until the last bit. The ending felt rushed and I was left with questions but not in a “wow so thought provoking open ended I’m gonna speculate” but more of a “wtf that was the end of the book? That was so abrupt and now I am frustrated because the loose ends have not been tied” … loved the focus on language/grammar/syntax. I’m glad I’m not 23 anymore. Honestly  I wish I would have read this at 23 - I wonder if I would glorify the protagonists flaws or if it would have helped me notice flaws in my own decision making

Update: decided this is at least 4 stars for me but I wouldn’t recommend it to others bc I feel like it would not be as enjoyable to others <3

ava was incredibly frustrating as a narrator but i also understood her. there were so many moments in here when she'd describe a particular thought or feeling i would completely identify with. her fear of connection and tendency to distance herself from other people felt very real. but i still spent most of the book wanting to yell at her to forget julian and communicate properly with edith so she could have an actually fulfilling relationship.
