How to Feed a Dictator gives the topic of dictatorships such an unseen and unique spin. By interviewing the private chefs of world's most infamous dictators, the author gives us a glimpse behind a curtain that history doesn't usually offer.
Some of the protagonists did not choose their life, some owe a lot and still think of their patron with a great deal of awe and respect. The testimonies are clearly biased and personal but they give us an interesting insight into why people follow such tyrants. What a person eats is a private and sheltered aspect of life, and every story in this book allows us to see some of the most calculated human beings as just that - human.
There are fragments of the book vastly more interesting and insightful than others, but, overall, the writing makes it a pleasure to read.

5 stars for sure!!! It was a lot better than I expected it to be but luckily it mixed a lot of history with talking about the food each chef served and it was way more to it than just culinary talk. I love how the author separates and perfectly breaks apart the 5 different stories. This book is a hidden gem and I highly recommend it. A book about 20th century world history, genocide, revolutions and food. Who couldn't love reading about that??
