5 ⭐️ thoroughly enjoyed this book! took me a few chapters to get my head around the world building but it was worth it. it was great to read a book with such heavy african/arab influences and the attention to the small details was perfect. can’t wait to read the next one!

If you like gritty fantasy with strong female leads, creatively intricate magical worlds, morally complex characters and societies - READ THIS BOOK.

This book should be everywhere, on everyone's shelves! Romantasy/fantasy is having a moment and I am here for it, but trust me when I say, *diversify your bookshelf* and do NOT sleep on this story.

The world building in this book is so raw, powerful, and unique - with Afro-Arab influences and a magic-fueled caste system unlike anything I've seen before. I cannot get it out of my head!

This is also possibly the most naturally gender-affirming world I've ever experienced. The identities of the third-gender, transgender, and queer characters are somehow both completely normalized and key to the plot.

Diving right into book 2 as soon as I publish this :)
