I loved Freya! Self-aware and willing to examine her own actions and their consequences as well as those of others, I appreciate that despite being the child of gods she doesn’t view herself as inherently superior.

Lots of mystery, plenty of tension. Despite building in several scenes that could’ve easily been much more salacious, I’m glad that they weren’t. The love plot line isn’t the main plot line but an important supporting line. But for a “forbidden attraction” trope, this one was done well and made sense with the story.

Would recommend for adults with an interest in Nordic mythology who enjoy fantastical adventures with a side of forbidden romance.

Can’t wait for the next installment!

A Fate Inked in Blood by @danielleljensen paints a magical world of Norse myth and legend with blood and fury and pain.

PROS:
🛡️Powerful Women
🗡️The Battle Scene
🛡️Prophecy Foretold
🗡️Subterfuge and Intrigue
🛡️The Act of Being Inked in Blood

CONS:
🗡️ How it is always power hungry men who think too highly of themselves is beyond me; but here we are: MEN!!
🛡️Secrets secrets are no fun, even when you are a part of one.
🗡️If you can’t trust your family, how can you trust anyone?
🛡️Did I say MEN? 😒

🛡️🛡️🛡️🛡️ out of five furious shield maidens

"Her fate is inked in her blood. It's carved in her bones. This power is Freya's destiny."

This book satiated my need for a Norse story, however, now I am in desperate need for book 2!!! 😩
There was so much fuss over this book and I had only added it to my tbr because it was pretty and I liked the title. It wasn't until I was complaining about wanting to read a Norse/viking book that it was brought to my attention that this was what I'd been looking for and it did NOT disappoint.

I love it for the fighting, the romance,  the magic, and the lore! It filled all the holes I had for what I wanted to read next. The characters felt predictable, but then it turned out they weren't, at all! The plot twists were 🤌. Hopefully I don't have to wait long for book 2's arrival! I give 💖💖💖 for romance and 🌶️ for spice.

I liked the Viking setting and Norse mythology elements, but the plot felt a bit slow and boring and I found the FMC annoying.

This book is a quick, easy read. I think the majority of it was a bit obvious, the foreshadowing a bit heavy handed.

I enjoyed it? Enough to finish it anyway.

I thought this was a solid read for a start of a series. It was good at introducing the word and magic. It has characters that had some nuance in emotions and actions which changed depending on the environment and who was around and involved.
I did think the ending was weak. There was drama and betrayal that really could have been sorted if people talked, or at least made the ending less annoying. Especially when those people who didn't explain anything then turn around and act indignant when people act on information that they know and hasn't been stated otherwise to be false.

I will be interested to see if this series changes characters every couple of books like her Bridge Kingdom series or if we will stay following Freya for a while.
