DNF! The amount of internal dialogue was unbearable. Freya’s thoughts were like of that girl that keeps bringing up the same problems without actually doing anything about it
Too bad, the premise was okay, fresh even, but the execution is meh.

Update: I did end up finishing this, but the stupidest, passive FMC with anger issues, no common sense yet the greatest power of overthinking without actually arriving to actionable conclusions made it very difficult.

Well damn - this was fantastic. I'm so glad I waited to read this until the second book came out because that cliffhanger was wild.

Freya's journey was hard and frustrating. I feel like her decisions made sense, even if it caused me to scream in anger at certain points lol

Bjorn is top tier - even if he's an idiot man sometimes. Granted he was so transparent (as the reader) about what his plans were and when he was lying. Just an obsessive, possessive, baby Viking man 🥰

Boo, another doormat daughter main character who lets her family treat her like shit and still cries when they deservedly die.

I had high hopes for this as I love the Bridge Kingdom series.  It was a really slow start for me.  At the beginning Freya felt like too much of a perfect character, the plot was bland and I didn't feel engaged.  Thankfully I pushed through and at about 50% the plot picked up.  The character flaws and development took a turn for the better and I started to care what happened.  I loved the ending (kinda saw it coming) and have gone straight into book 2.

I can’t decide if this book was terrible or good?

I really enjoyed this! Some of the plot twists were predictable, and I wish that Freya had the sense to observe what was going on with those closest to her (I'm looking at you Bjorn), but the banter and the world-building made it a worthwhile read!
