I can't believe I'm saying this, but this was not great.

I WANTED to love this book so bad. This should have been a slam dunk for me.

BUT, the problem I have with this is the relationships. This book needed my details and backstory, because the decisions the FMC was making based off these relationships didn't make sense, and it made me like her less.

Like WHYYYY are you putting your life on the line to save a bunch of people that treat you like garbage? Why are you putting your family, who never did anything for you, above yourself? It makes no sense, there was no previous history there warranting that sort of sacrifice. Maybe a flashback to when her brother stood up for her, or a story about how her mother showed her how to be a woman... SOMETHING to make it make sense.

The warrior lady who died in battle after getting struck by lightning? The FMC went into a depressive episode when that happened. The same lady she knew she shouldn't trust, and didn't know what her motives were. But when the healer that treated her with kindness, saved her life after she was burned, the same healer who ran into battle unprepared to save her people, and gave her life to protect others.. when that healer died, the FMC didnt even really think about it. Make it make sense? Why did the brave healer get so little reaction, when the secretive battle lady got chapters of grief?!

And I don't understand when the FMC and MMC went from lust to love. Because all of it seemed very much like lust when it came to the FMC. Nothing really changed between them for her to finally say "oh I love him" and I really didn't believe her. She was still feeling "her core tighten" and "liquid pool", when he seemed to be the one changing and showing her that he had feelings. She was just trying to bang him... I'm not sure how else to explain it. But I didn't believe her when she suddenly realized it was love.

I think this could have been a great book if more time had been put into it. I would have like to have seen the relationships and backstories fleshed out a little more, and maybe some more scenes between the two MCs so the reader could have a better idea of how the FMCs feelings were changing towards the MMC. It all read as very YA and immature.
