The most satisfying part was her standing up to her mother. The rest of her actions were frustrating. How are you going to fiercely defend someone who has enslaved you but tell the person who has protected you that you want to kill them for lying to you? Her priorities are a little messed up.

Loved the change up with the Norse mythology but there just wasn't a lot of depth to this book. Little to no world building or character complexity. It seems like Freya has two themes: duty and arousal.

Danielle Jensen, what did I just read? It was amazing. I was honored to be able to get an ARC of this book and I inhaled it. I’ve read a couple “Norse inspired” books that give a little Viking feel…but this…was VIKING. You get the gods, the action, the magic, the romance, the banter and even one horse.

From the start, I felt like I was immersed in the world of Freya. I knew Danielle’s writing style from reading The Bridge Kingdom books and this book is no different. She writes in a way that you feel you are the characters. You feel like your in their world, seeing and feeling everything. THE BANTER between Freya and Bjorn was perfection…from out the gate.

If your looking for an entry to fantasy, this is perfect. The magic system is easy to understand and not too complex. If you love high fantasy, this is also for you. The story line is intriguing, the plot and character building are perfect. I cannot wait for the next one…and it’s gonna be a while since this doesn’t come out until 5 months from now…

Thank you for the opportunity for this ARC!

I don’t know. I really just didn’t like this book. Freja was super fucking annoying to me. Like, TOO morally good, even to people who sure as hell don’t deserve it. She was just ignorant and naive. I knew who the “traitor” was that kept revealing information to their enemies, but once again, she was too naive to think of it as an option. I’m just overall very disappointed and annoyed by this book. I most likely will not read the sequel. I don’t understand how booktok got so hyped about this one. Probs just bc it has roots in Norse mythology.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — Viking vibes, blood magic, and a slow-burn to die for

This book ate and left no crumbs. From the very first page, A Fate Inked in Blood had me by the throat with its Norse-inspired setting, prophecy-laced plot, and a heroine who refuses to be anyone’s pawn—even when the gods themselves are playing the game.

Freya is a standout FMC—married off for politics, bound by prophecy, and yet still fiercely defiant. She’s powerful because she’s angry, desperate to shape her own fate. And Bjorn? Brooding, battle-scarred, emotionally repressed perfection. Their slow burn is everything—all tension, barely-there touches, and that glorious ache of forbidden want.

The worldbuilding felt rich without being overwhelming. I loved the runes, the blood magic, the whispers of fate woven through everything. It’s gritty and grounded, with just the right hint of myth and mystery.

And the banter?? Sharp. Sexy. Satisfying. Every conversation between Freya and Bjorn felt like a dagger wrapped in silk. Their chemistry had me clutching the book like it owed me something.

Spice Level: Slow burn, but worth it. The payoff is hot, intimate, and emotionally charged. Not constant, but when it hits—it hits.

Tropes: Prophecy-bound heroine • Forced proximity • Slow burn • Warrior love interest • “I’ll protect you but also respect your power” energy • Political marriage

Most highlighted quote: "You were never mine to want, but gods help me—I want you anyway." (I gasped.)

This one ticked every box for me: strong heroine, broody man with hidden softness, Norse mythology, enemies of the throne, and a romance that simmers until it scorches. If you love Fourth Wing, The Bridge Kingdom, or anything with tension that hurts so good—you need this in your life.
