Academia romance is kinda a hit or miss but L.J Shen did so well with this book. I love the FMC and MMC plus all the supporting characters. A lot of character development and growth in this. Def made me shed a few tears too

Now this book had everything for me. As a fellow angst lover, the romance had me on a chokehold. The high school sweethearts turn enemies was something that held my attention throughout this book. The way the male lead was trying so hard not to be in love with her yet falling so hard for her in every step of his revenge. The way he loved her scars and her cuts.

Also initially the female lead was kinda annoying. IM SORRY NOW. She is one of the most traumatized young girls I know and I understand that she didn’t deal with it the right way but she dealt with her trauma in the only way she knew.

I enjoyed both their point of views as you could see them slowly falling so hard for each other. I would definitely reread this but only when I forget everything about it.

Reading this book with a fresh mind was amazing, like thinking about everything that has happened to each individual character and how it affected their persona. It turns the whole world, reality and fiction around in my brain.

I also enjoyed the side characters and I was so happy that they have their own books which I am definitely going to read. Also the love that the Dad had for his daughter was something that made me fall in love with their relationship.

Like sometimes I wish I could also comfort people that aren’t real, but I can’t so in this world I comfort mostly all the characters in this book.

This one is UNPUTDOWNABLE!

To the outside world, Daria has it all. The perfect family with her devoted father and her ballerina mother, but she has a monster inside. That monster can’t be tamed. Penn’s world is a mess in a lot of ways, but he has his sister. He has his devotion to making her dream come true and to protecting her. Through several twists of fate, their worlds are going to collide again and again bringing them back to each other. Whether it be for good or for the destruction they leave in their wake, it is hard to say. It’s clear that the polish on Daria’s life isn’t shining so brightly anymore. Why do I feel such anxiety every time she’s called to the principal’s office? Oh my Marx, I hope everyone comes out of this alive when the secrets everyone is hiding come to light... Is the opposite of hate, love? Is it apathy? What emotions are swirling around these two, and who will be left standing when the destruction they’ve wrought has come to bear?

Real life issues in High Schools today.

I read this through KU and it's the first book I have read from LJ Shen. It for sure will not be the last. I liked the story line even though I usually don't read high school based books. Daria was a little over the top but overall a good book and would recommend it.

Do I have an important oral exam in 2 days? Yes
Am I still reading what feels like a book a day to procrastinate? Yes

This was enjoyable but nothing I would run through the streets and tell everyone about. But it was exactly what I needed right now, so I appreciate that!
