Pretty Reckless

I read Broken Knight before this one, because Luna's selective mutism really interested me (I need the rep). Then I switched over to this book because I felt like I was missing a little too much regarding Daria and Penn (although Penn wasn't as present in the book as Daria).

Normally it would be hard for me to emphasize with the main character being a bully. Daria really fits that mantle. But I really emphasized with her character. She couldn't be the perfect daughter. I read the parents' series after this one, and it just made Daria's situation worse for me. Penn coming into the family would've made me go crazy... NORMALLY.

Because I emphasized with Penn too. What Daria did was messed up. I would also want to ruin her life. The chemistry between them was insane. They wanted to hate each other but the tension between them really blurred the line between love and hate. I couldn't hate anyone (besides her mom).

(Later his sister came along and I found another person to hate.)

4.5 stars bc of the “oh my Marx”
Loved loved loved this book
Better than vicious
Adored penn and Daria. I don’t think this book was meant to be sad but I was CRYING. Multiple times. I saw so much of myself in Daria

Loved seeing the four original hotholes

Ich weiß nicht wie ich dieses Buch bewerten soll.

Es hat mich süchtig gemacht. Aber oh mein Gott die Widersprüche, die Toxicity, das Drama! Und diese unnötigen und unangenehmen Erotikszenen.

It’s so bad that it’s perfect

Oh. My. Marx!!! That may sound like an odd exclamation to you, but once you find yourselves touched by all things Pretty Reckless, you'll realize the significance of it. This All Saints High series starter is one of the most anticipated reads for this year, and for good reason. This is, after all, a spin-off of L.J. Shen's much-loved and highly acclaimed Sinners of Saint series, with the next generation--aka the spawn--of the couples from the original series. As you can tell from the series title itself, these are set in high school, but this is so not young adult (YA) in terms of theme even though most of the characters do fall under that age group. Book one has a more new adult (NA) feel to it, one that I suspect will carry over throughout, but regardless of which sub-genre you choose to classify this under, this is, very simply put, one of the best reads you'll have the privilege of experiencing. Prepare to be awed.

The men and women from Sinners of Saint are truly in a class all their own, but based on what I saw in this All Saints High series starter, it looks like the boys and girls here are set to give the "older" generation a run for their money. I know it's been said that revenge is best served cold, but in the case of Penn and Daria, well, revenge turned out to be scorchingly hot. These two and their story highlighted that sometimes, you hate the ones you love and you love the ones you hate. There is, after all, a very thin line between the two emotions and Daria and Penn certainly had no qualms traipsing along and over it time and again. There was this thrum of almost palpable-like energy whenever these two were on the page, and turning my attention away from whatever was going on was an exercise in futility. L.J. Shen has, once again, delivered, and Pretty Reckless sets the bar high. Five-plus stars. ♥

"You were never a drizzle, Penn Scully. When I fell for you, you came beating down, and I
felt you everywhere. You were hail."

O Melody to bohužel říct nemůžu..

i really wanted to give this more stars bcs i liked the couple but the highschool drama that was so stupid made me rethink things

Wow.

I absolutely devoured this book. I could not put it down. I neglected my motherly duties and I’m not ashamed to say it.

This book was everything I didn’t know I needed.. or wanted.

Queen B Daria is a mean girl on the outside- breaking, empty, alone on the inside. She does one hell of a job keeping up her charade but throughout the book she’s not afraid to admit to herself how broken she actually is.

Penn is the bad boy in every high school girls dreams. He’s a poor, broken boy with a heart of gold.

This angsty, enemies to lovers, drama filled story is so painfully beautiful, it’s hard to put into words everything it brings to the table.

One might think this high-school love story is a little over the top, but it’s devastatingly terrifying how common some parts of this story are. I will recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

But please, check the trigger warnings!
