I was looking for mess and that is exactly what I got. No complaints here
3 stars.
This story in my opinion had a very cliche storyline:
-enemies move into innocent main characters house
-the innocent main character falls for the "bad boy", gives him all of her firsts, and then he doesn't want her
-"bad boy" wants her back when he realizes he messed up so he is pathetic and instead avoids her to get her back
-innocent main character and principal have a "relationship" going on
-mother and daughter have a broken relationship due to the mother loving everyone else more
-innocent main character has a book of sins that of course her enemy get her hands on and threatens to release it
-baby mama drama between "bad boy" and another girl
In my opinion, this book was very cliche and predictable. I wish that I had enjoyed this book more because it does seem to have had potential. Nothing was wrong with the way the author wrote, just wish the story was less predictable.

No shit the most bizarre thing that I’ve ever read. I was entertained tho like honestly.
1. Daria is a fucking spoiled brat. Bitch is insufferable
2. Penn is……. Something. What do you mean he walks around with a hole in his shirt

Wanting a darker romance with some angst, I decided to pick up my first book by L.J. Shen. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this series and I’m so glad I took the plunge and read the first book. In Pretty Reckless, we meet Daria who is struggling to fit in with her family, feeling like she’s never good enough. Struggling to live up to her mother’s expectations, she finds herself enraged until a boy, Penn, intrigues her. Later finding out that he’s the brother of her enemy, she stays clear until circumstances find them forced together when her mother takes Penn in. However, now Penn blames her for his sister’s disappearance and they find themselves struggling to stay enemies.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat. There were twists and turns throughout the book, some expected and some surprises. I found myself empathizing with the main characters and rooting for something to go their way. I enjoyed the back and forth tension with their relationship - as well as the teenage angst that accompanied it. And while I’ve highlighted things you’d normally see in a high school romance, I want to note that this is definitely a dark romance - so be sure to check out triggers to make sure this one is for you.
I am already moving on to the second in the series, but I should also note another series by L.J. Shen. As I was reading this, it kept referencing the parents of several of the kids and I had an inclining that they may have their own series. And they definitely do. I think it’s good to know in case you want to read in order, that the parents of the main characters in this series are in L.J. Shen’s Sinners of Saint series. So if you’re adamant about reading in order, be sure to start there. Me? I’ll going to continue with the All Saints High series first. Happy reading!
This one will pull on your heartstrings. I will continue the series
"You are only lonely if you are not there for yourself"- but how can you learn to be there for yourself when no one ever stayed for you? How do you know know to deserve love, when no one ever said what you are worth?
It's easier and less heartbreaking to say, we should love ourselves no matter what. And maybe we should but even then, the fear that perhaps we are not worth anyone's energy doesn’t go away. It keeps growing every time you see someone who is supposed to love you, not choose you. It keeps growing every time they leave you alone with your anger, frustration, pain.
"It’s that I don’t think any boy can truly like me. If my own parents barely tolerate me, then how can I expect a dude to fall in love with me for who I am?"- what makes a 14-year-old believe her parents only tolerate her? Why didn’t they break her glass wall to rescue her from herself? Why didn’t they soothe her ever-increasing wound? and you know what hurts most? They are good people, they aren’t careless parents and still, they choose not to care about the daughter who needed some extra love.
I read a quote somewhere that said - " your anger knows you deserve to be treated well". That's what it reminded me of. Initially, I didn’t like Daria. But now that it's finished, I understand her. I know what it feels like to be treated like a ticking time bomb when the bomb is their making. I know how it feels when no one acknowledges how they stopped loving us and now that we are not okay with that, we are creating a scene. I know how weak we feel when we still want that love anyway, how we still want to be wanted. And I know how we mask that vulnerability with anger and mean words. I loved reading every bit of it. I loved how it didn’t try to make parents are never wrong bullshit.
Recommend.
