An amazing story about an island forgotten by most. I enjoyed this book immensely and I would readily recommend it to anyone that is looking for a wonderful coming-of-age tale about a young girl. Please pick it up, you will not regret it.

“And they sat on the edge of a promontory, an aging man and a little girl, spying on stars and witnessing the passage of waves.”

Surreal

Ayaana is such a brave and fearless little girl. Such a joy reading about her younger years with Muhidin. I smiled so much at their interactions and lessons and her inquisitive nature. I almost started crying when she made the declaration that he was her father.

I so wanted to love this one and I did for the first 100 pages but then the flowery writing just became too much and I spent most of the time re reading pages trying understand what was going on.
