Let me preface this by saying, I am merely a casual comic book reader. As such, it is entirely possible that I have no idea what I’m talking about, but I was considerably underwhelmed by Spiderman Blue.

The only other Loeb & Sale comic I’ve read is the Long Halloween, but Blue certainly pales in comparison. My overall impression when I finished the comic was that nothing really happened, and whatever did happen, was only meh-worthy. The introduction forewarns you that you may be brought to tears by this tale, but for something that purports to be a love story, the female characters are overly sexualized and one-dimensional, and I left knowing only slightly more about the characters’ relationships than when I began.

While Spiderman Blue and the Long Halloween both feature a variety of villains, the Long Halloween’s fun and punchy pacing was much more compelling than in Blue, where the villains’ appearances felt like forced cameos. I feel entirely indifferent having read this comic.

Quite disappointed tbh.
For a story that centers in Peter and Gwen's love story, we don't learn much about Gwen or why Peter fell in love with her other than her being attractive.
Also, MJ rubbed me the wrong way here and that ending was...not great imo.

All-star creative team Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale come together once more to create an epic Spider-Man tale. This, in my opinion, is and should be considered one of the greatest Spidey tales ever told. Loeb knows how to tug at the heart strings while Peter Parker recollects his history with Gwen Stacy, adding new depth and a different perspective on a familiar story. Sale is on-point with his pencil work and pacing from panel to panel. Blue is a must read for any new or old Spider-Man fan.

A pretty good spider-man, with spot-on humor and an excellent capture of the Gwen-MJ-Peter love triangle. It really does a lot with the spider-man basics most people know. The ending, though a nice one, fails to explain what exactly happened that set the book in motion, which was a bit of a frustration but didn't ruin a pretty fine graphic novel.

A truly excellent condensed Spider-Man story. A love letter to Gwen Stacy after her death includes many major Spider-Man villains. This book was absolutely full of love for Spider-Man's history both plotwise and characterwise. You even get to see the evolution of Mary Jane from silver age bombshell to modern-age three-dimensional character.

[a:Tim Sale|61388|Tim Sale|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1576874697p2/61388.jpg]'s art is, as always, fantastic. But I so associate him with DC (thanks to Loeb & Sale's[b:Batman: The Long Halloween|106069|Batman The Long Halloween|Jeph Loeb|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1350137101l/106069._SY75_.jpg|680248]) that I kept thinking of this as a DC book.

If you're a Spider-Man fan, this is an excellent book. I would even recommend this as a first Spider-Man book, as it encapsulates so many of the classic tropes and stories without making it seem like a Greatest Hits storyline.
