A short story collection that reads like Ginsberg’s Howl and Kerouac’s On the Road, but infinitely better. Rudderless sad waistoid boys that get into strange situations and occasionally have some profound observations. Another great fiction on America’s lost youth, the subversive drug culture, and collective despair.

Read the first two stories and didn’t enjoy them. Reviews suggested it would be more of the same and I couldn’t see myself trudging through nine more.

[1992] Dark, angry. Occasionally funny, often cruel. Short stories with a character or two reappearing throughout. Great writing. Evidence that a book can have neither a relatable story(ies) nor likable characters and still be a worthwhile reading experience (a topic often hotly debated these days it seems).
