This book was vastly different than what I originally thought. Being an English Major I did know the general idea of Dorian Gray but the ending totally caught me by surprise. I had a feeling that the Vane boy would kill him, but that twist at the end where Dorian thought that by stabbing his portrait that he would rid himself of the picture but it really gets rid of himself. The ending was completely brilliant. I didn't think in the end that Dorian would actually die (since I had never read the book, everything that I have known/studied I always assumed that he lived on forever.)

I originally struggled with this book and ended up stopping on page thirty for a couple months (maybe even a year) but when I had enough time to just sit and read it through it was a fantastic and enthralling read. Wilde's discriptions where wonderful and all of the thoughts deep and thought provoking.

Oscar Wilde has such a beautiful way of using language. He could be describing a pile of worm filled dog feces and I would be in a sense of awe and fascination.
