I couldn't put this book down! At first, I thought the main character was vapid but was the story began to develop, I saw the hurt and want for healing she craved. I truly enjoyed how the author approached this subject.
I listened to the audiobook, and I enjoyed the narration. That's what kept me going at the beginning, since I did feel the writing took forever to make a point. There is SO MUCH going on in this book -- too much, in my opinion -- but the main character kept me engaged. Honestly this is a pretty weak 3 stars, but I listened to Pretty Baby right before this & really didn't enjoy that one, so this got a boost in the rating for NOT being that book. Not how I normally rate my reads, but it was impossible not to compare them.
I picked up this book with the hopes it was going to be another "Gone Girl" storyline, one which I enjoyed thoroughly. Even the woman at the checkout told me I would die for this book.
She was wrong.
I wouldn't rush out to buy this book, nor would I recommend it to anyone. I can merely "meh" when someone asks me if I'm enjoying/enjoyed it. It's okay. I can't really say much more. For me the book only got good after chapter 12 when we FINALLY learn what major event happened to Ani and her friends. (I must admit i wasn't expecting that revelation and after that I wanted to know what happened) in all honesty you could skip the first few chapters and start at chapter 10 and still have a clue as to what is happening.
Also, Ani FaNelli is not a likeable character. Yes she went through some shit as a teenager but I just could not like her, she was everything I dislike in a character. There weren't really any characters I liked to be honest.
Personally I don't think Jessica Knoll knows which genre she is trying to tackle. I think she had taken the two main events of the storyline and made them the sole focus and put more effort into creating a more emotional story off of them, then the book could have been so much more. I also wasn't a huge fan of her writing style, it was very choppy and a bit confusing at points. I've read it is partially based on her life, which if that is the case, I applaud her for telling her story. I can't imagine how difficult that must have been for her.
[[ALSO don't read if you're triggered by comments about severe weight loss, rape and/or mental health issues. This book doesn't handle them that well and some slightly insensitive comments are made.]]

I hated this book in the beginning and almost gave up on it. I glad stuck with it. First, it is nowhere near similar to Gone Girl. This is not a suspenseful book and shame on the publishers for claiming it is. What it is, is a girl who decides to take charge of her life again after a traumatic event when she was a teenager. After the event, Ani, changed and not for the better. The way this book is written (kind of bad in the beginning) will almost make you want to add it to your DNF pile, but stick with it. It does get better.

I listened to the audiobook on @LibroFm. I accidentally watched the movie before so I knew what was coming. Had I not, this would have been more intense for me. Knoll created the theme from a devastating, personal experience. However, Ani, the main character is very unlikable. I found her too implausible and extremely shallow. Worth the read though!
Although this book didn't leave me with a happy, warm feeling inside. This was a good book! Dark and intense. A lot of victim blaming which is not something that is unheard of but the story, and the "What I know" (found after the acknowledgements) were powerful.
