Re-read this. Now I want to bum around the country for two months having adventures. Plotting out a course on Google Maps and everything.
My daughter (15) recommended this to me, and we both found it completely delightful!
I think there are so many parallels between 1960 and now. This book is a timeless classic about who and what America is. I've read this several times, and it always feels fresh and offers new insights even though it's 53 years old.
A great writer takes a trip across America, a deeply divided America. Most people didn't want to talk about the Presidential election or the racial divide across the south. This book is as important today as it was in the 60's, it's really a shame that so many of the problems are still here, along with the intolerance.
A pleasant enough read. My favorite part was the disdain Steinbeck showed for the people protesting school integration.
Mr. Steinbeck, the nomad in me nods to the journeyman in you. May we never lose the desire to experience new places, new feelings, new friends. It makes the air smell better. And our eyes in wonderment.
Everytime I read Steinbeck I just feel so taken aback and speechless. What a gifted writer.
