I don't care if this book is creative nonfiction. I could listen to Steinbeck's prose all day, especially as read by Ron McLarty.

Another audiobook. Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck. I loved this book. Non-fiction account of Steinbeck’s drive around America in 1960 in the company of his dog Charley. Showing the beautiful and ugly parts of the country. Reflecting on what it means to be American. Steinbeck comments on diet, plastics, race, environment and sustainability in a way that is surprisingly pertinent today. Loved Charley. Seeing a redwood tree was already on my bucket list but even more so now.

Beautiful and interesting. The last chapter, written in 1960 about the south, was very telling.
