This memoir is about a mother's experience in a second pregnancy - the author also had a 3 year old son at the time of her pregnancy - and so there are comments on pregnancy as well as hopes and fears of raising a second child and securing the relationship she has with her first child. There are a lot of memoirs and books out there on first time pregnancy but not so many on additional children - and this one was excellent to boot. It was the perfect book for me to read right now.

Easy read that I laughed out loud to over two rainy days couped up inside. Her writing style is little hyperbolic, which is supposed to be part of the charm of an overly analytical/borderline neurotic young mother. I've read numerous blogs from writers who mimic this style and I find it tiring. The difference with this author, however, is she manages to break away from mold long enough to write some beautifully thoughtful things in a way that weaves all her short stories together. It makes her neurosis far more forgiving, if not charming and human. A very pleasant read, indeed.

I really liked this book. I thought it was very readable and had some parts that were so funny I was laughing out loud. I was surprised by just how overly concerned she was but I appreciated how she and her family grew throughout the story.

Loved the writing in this humorous account of dealing with pregnancy while working and caring for a toddler. Light and easy read.

"Waiting for Birdie" is probably one of the best written memoirs I have ever had the privilege of reading. Why did this book appeal to me so much? First off, Catherine Newman has a decided talent for picking the right word, then putting it into a beautifully crafted sentence. Her writing is alive.
Secondly, I recognized parts of myself in this book, which in some small way, validates my own experiences. That is always a good feeling, albeit it makes enjoying this book more of a personal experience.
I would recommend this book for anyone who is or has experienced pregnancy and child-rearing.

Catherine Newman captures the magic of the everyday with such grace, such humour, such care.

At one point, she writes: "I feel a little weepy and nostalgic... I'm not unhappy. I'm just a little full with something that's not quite happiness," and I swear to you, never have I found words to describe my sentimental soul so well.

I love, I love.

Hilarious memoir describing the author's pregnancy/ birth/ early babyhood of her second child. I sometimes had to stop reading because I was laughing so hard. The stories about the 3 year old were so right on (one of my favorite quotes is in this review). It also has some very touching and sweet moments/ observations, but it was the humor that I most appreciated!

A fabulous read for anyone cooking away on a 2nd, or 3rd, or whatever baby. I don't know if I would have liked this book as much when I was pregnant with Lacy.

Charming, refreshing, and utterly delightful. The author gives an account of her second pregnancy, how it differed from her first and having her toddler going through it with her.

Her writing is engaging and humorous and represents the motherhood experience authentically. The adventures she has with Ben, her toddler, are amusing and totally relatable as I have a funny, silly toddler of my own. I really enjoyed getting to know her little family, and I'm looking forward to her next book, [b:Catastrophic Happiness: Finding Joy in Childhood's Messy Years|26030709|Catastrophic Happiness Finding Joy in Childhood's Messy Years|Catherine Newman|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1451861395l/26030709._SY75_.jpg|45956882].
