The stories are kind of dumb, but I suppose there is only so much You can express at a A2-B1 language level.
For language learning: absolutely yes
For pure entertainment purposes: probably no.

For what it is - a book to help you learn Italian - it's great. A bizarre emphasis on supernatural/fantastical things; I'm not sure how much I'll need vocabulary for describing a time-traveling pirate, but okay, I guess.

(As a few other reviews have noted, a few of the answers on page 192 are incorrect which is not fantastic. I had to double check with my handy nearby Italian to check I had understood properly. And the choice of bold words (those added to the vocabulary lists) was sometimes a bit weird: some were easy and had been added while others which were clearly more obscure weren’t in the lists.)
I should note that the handy Italian has also proofread my Italian and corrected several errors in the making of this review :D

Overall, I found this book to be somewhat helpful, however, some of the stories were not very good. They were either very strange or very hard to follow. The first story (about two teens going abroad and finding a friend’s long lost dad) was interesting enough and had a nice twist to it. The second story (about two friends in the woods who see a ‘monster’) was also interesting and had a bit of suspense in it. The fourth story (about a watchmaker who finds a magical watch belonging to a pirate who can time travel) was also pretty good. The third story and the fifth story were both quite hard for me to follow. It wasn’t that I didn’t understand them but they were just so odd and uninteresting to me. I wish the author had stuck to more normal, simple stories. I have read the other books in this series and I think the stories in the other two are definitely better than the stories in this one.
Also, I read the paperback version of this book while simultaneously listening to the audiobook. That’s how I read the other books in the series as well. The audiobook for this one very annoyingly lacks the chapter summaries that the other books have and it also lacks the chapter questions that the other ones have. That is a massive drawback for me.
