I enjoyed this book significantly more than the first one, and I found the pacing and plot more interesting. I enjoyed getting to know Anita Blake and her world more, and I must say the world building is getting better.

Like I said in my last review, I want more Jean-Claude. That being said, though, I thoroughly enjoyed the character of Dominga A LOT. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series.

I really enjoyed the second book more so than the first one, but there’s still something about Anita Blake that just rubs me the wrong way. I’ve been told by a few people that she gets better and better as the series carries on, but I have yet to see that. I did find this book to be much darker compared to the first, and included a few more creatures, so I am intrigued to see how the series continues. Seems like there is a lot to look forward to, and at the very least, it’s a nice easy read.

2nd book in the Anita Blake series. I enjoyed this book because we get to learn a little bit more about what an animator is and the depth of Anita’s powers.

I started this series last year and I'm so glad I finally got around to the second book. These books are always super quick, fun reads (thanks Charlene!). The story in this one was super dark (definitely check the trigger warnings here) and I was hooked from the start trying to figure out what was going on.

This book counts for Popsugar 2021 as a bestseller from the 1990s and is a Top 12 book for 2021.
