To help navigate her way through a difficult divorce, the poet Maggie Smith started sharing her daily ‘notes to self’ on social media and soon found that her thoughts resonated with people going through a host of life changes. In this deeply moving book of thoughts, quotes and personal essays, Maggie Smith writes about new beginnings as opportunities for transformation.

Like kintsugi, the Japanese art of mending broken ceramics with gold, Keep Moving celebrates the beauty and strength on the other side of loss. This is a book for anyone who has gone through a difficult time and is wondering: What comes next?

I picked Keep Moving up when I was in need of a little encouragement. While Maggie Smith wrote this about her divorce, it generalizes to other situations where grief exists. This quick and simple book is aesthetically pleasing, and filled with short essays and quotes about continuing to find joy and hope during life's hardest moments.

Keep Moving is a gentle reminder during those tough times that pain and joy can coexist. That growth is still possible. There really isn't anything new here, yet it's like that little reminder from a friend that we all need on the bad days. Written in a manner that is easy digestible, it would make a good gift for the bereaved, because each little snippet doesn't take a lot of mental power.

"Stop calling your heart broken; your heart works just fine. If you are feeling - love, anger, gratitude, grief - it is because your heart is doing its work. Let it. Keep moving."

"You are not betraying your grief by feeling joy. You are not being graded, and you do not receive extra credit for being miserable 100% of the time. Find pockets of relief, even happiness, when and where you can. Keep moving."

Absolutely recommend the audiobook for this one - some sections are incredibly meditative and the audio really enhances that.
