By the end of this book, I was caring and rooting for a lot of the characters, but it took a while to get there.
Like the iron hands, the salamanders have the continued issue of being very one note characters, Vulcan's dead, valcun lives, blah blah blah.
Even though that stubborn devotion it one of their strongest points, it is almost too on the nose and takes too long to get there.
The ending was confusing buteads me to hope that future spicy lizard centric stories are more to care about.

The reviews on this one varrrrrrry SO hard.

It seems like it is either 1 star or 5 star.

For me this is 3.5.

I mean who doesn't love a bunch of dragons eating tanks?

I also did find some of the demon scenes pretty creepy which was fun.

Salamanders are kinda one note but I like the note...sue me.

It's a weird combination of archetypes. Starts as standard Imperial fare, becomes a warp horror show and then bolter porn for the rest.

Not horrible, but a bit of an empty story in terms of relevance to the meta plot. Sure, there's a bunch of ink spilled about Vulkan's corpse, but this is nothing that a short story couldn't have covered with less painful asides.

Twelve months after the release of the last full Horus Heresy novel (Damnation of Pythos), book 32 in the series is finally here, in the form of Deathfire by Nick Kyme. Following on directly from The Unremembered Empire, and bringing back characters from Vulkan Lives and Know No Fear, it sees the few Salamanders involved in Imperium Secundus choose brave the Ruinstorm, risking everything in order to return the body of their primarch to their home world of Nocturne.

Dragged on a bit really for little pay off. Considering how long the book lasts, the ending is very rushed
