Late to the party with this one, but it seemed a reasonable follow-up to reading The Boys in the Boat. Incredibly moving and evocative. I don't think I've ever read about POW experiences at this length before. I'm not sure if I'm more struck that people could be so unbelievably, unbearably cruel to each other -- or that people still find it in themselves to survive despite it. Amazing.

Extremely well written and a must read. Obviously the subject matter is very heavy. I'm eternally grateful for all who sacrificed during WWII and I'm happy their stories will be remembered.

Ugh.... If I could have gotten into it it would have probably been good. It was just SOOO dense and EVERYTHING was a description and so by page 100 I just flipped through the pages to look at the pictures and them returned it, just couldn't keep my interest.
