Wow, this is one unbroken story of abuse. However, if you can stand to read to the end you will find this story should be renamed forgiveness. The forgiveness of Louie is pretty inspiring.

Amazing book. I resisted picking this one up, but I'm so glad I did. An enthralling true story of one man's survival - as well as the survival and demise of so many others. I'm certain one cannot fully comprehend the horror of war without experiencing it personally and this telling is as close as I ever want to come! It is a testament to what the body and the spirit can endure.

A gut-wrenching, gripping story of one amazing man who went from running in Hitler's Olympics to fighting for survival as a Japanese prisoner of war. Some of what he witnessed is so far beyond inhumane, it's the stuff of nightmares. I learned so much I didn't know about the Pacific theater of the war and about POWs. My dad would have loved this book! The best part is the sense of humor that had a lot to do with how soldiers survived - it has a lot to do with how we all survive. It's also a cautionary tale about war and what happens to soldiers during and after such an experience. I hope the movie is even half as good.

DID NOT FINISH
I really dislike her writing style, got bored about 50 pages in and gave up. Reviews were so good, I figured I give this one a try, but deeep down I knew it wasn't the kind of book I'd like.
