Once again, I had a really good time with this novel. I really enjoyed the visit to the Ghost City, Xie Lang's interaction Hua Cheng, the god of the wind (he is really funny). I didn't enjoy the second prince (Lang Quanqiu) as much; he felt a little idealistic and hot-headed, immediatly assuming things without really hearing anyone out. Fortunately, Hua Cheng made sure to set things right. Qi Rong, whom was mentioned in the first book, was truly a piece of work. Holy shit, I'm not sure when he was worse, when he was a wraith, or when he was a human being. I personally would go for human being, as he was very much mortal and still do all these things. he is crazy, but Xia Lang's parents just allow it. Like, I don't understand. He harms people, could possibly kill them, and they just let him be! I'm also glad that the boy with the human faces has been found again and take in Xia Lang's care. Part 1 ended on a huge cliffhanger, and I was really excited to continue, but part 2 started off kinda rough. I had little interest to go back in time to see Xia Lang's childhood. It was useful in the sense of getting a feeling for Mu Qing and Feng Xin, and we finally figure out how Hua Cheng met Xie Lang; Xie Lang saved him all these many years ago. But still, I''m alsightly worried that the next novel continues were we just left off, and it would be a bit of a disappointment. I like Xie Lang of the now more than the past, and the supporting characters are more likable/better than what we have to deal with in the past (Mu Qing and Feng Xin are fine, but I dislike Qi Rong with a burning passion and he was way too present in the last part, and especially unpunished. How badly I want to wring his neck! So the last part did drag it down a little. It wasn't terrible, and very necessary, but the placement was kinda off. I much rather would've had this after a solid conclusion of volume 2, then ending at a cliff-hanger and trying to make me care for timeline I don't entirely care for.
