From BBC Radio 4 Extra:
A tale of two families and a fresh era for the Minsters of Crown House, and the Royal Family of Windsor. A serial in eight episodes by Peter Ling and Juliet Ace.

Starring Jane Asher as Jenny, Gayle Hunnicutt as Gina, Margaret Rawlings as Old Bea, Dinah Sheridan as Alice, Martin Jarvis as Richard, Richard Pasco as William and Dominic Rickhards as Nicholas.

April 21, 1926 is a significant date for both households. While the old Earl of Minster is laid to rest and his son, William assumes the title, the King and Queen await the birth of a royal grandchild.

William's wife, Alice, is lady-in-waiting to Queen Mary, and through her the families are drawn together; but at the heart of the story is the house itself, set in its magical garden, slowly maturing in beauty year by year, as the saga unfolds.

2/8: As the new Lord Minster's family move to Crown House, housekeeper's daughter Jenny is keen to see Richard.

3/8: Housekeeper's daughter Jenny falls further in love and Gina sparks money worries for new husband Charles.

4/8: Richard celebrates his last night as a bachelor by going to a London revue and dining with a chorus girl.

5/8: Alice gets involved in a new London venture while husband Lord Minster enlists Jenny's help in the garden.

6/8: Although the news of the King's illness has not been made public, Alice learns that his condition is very serious. Scott causes tension between Jenny and Caroline.

7/8: Gina has more debts, the past comes back to haunt Alice and Jenny receives some tragic news.

8/8: Nick is involved in a naval crisis, and can things end happily for Jenny? Final instalment of family saga with Dominic Rickhards.

Producer: Graham Gauld
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 1988.
