THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!! BE CAUTIOUS IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE BOOK YET!!!
The second to last Vampire Academy book took me the longest to read. I started to read it on the twenty-first of May and ended it on the eleventh of June.
The reason it took me so long to read this one was because I was busy and I was trying to get this book review blog going as well. But I finally got it done and oh my god I was so happy about Dimitri being alive again but sad for Rose. I also really did like the end of the book.

It had a really excellent start so I had high hopes for the entirety of the book, but unfortunately it did hit a really quite monumental road block. It got extremely boring and REPETITIVE REPETITIVE REPETITIVE halfway through. The same back and forth of Rose shouting at the council/Queen. The same secretive behaviors between all the characters. The same 'I love you, I don't love you' conversations between all of them as well. There was way too much angst and not enough development. The reason I only deducted 1 star was because I truly do love this series and because in the end there was quite a BANG of a surprise which caused a total game change. I seriously hope that the last installment is better than the majority of this book, and I think it will be! This series is one of my favorites now so I have high hopes that it will continue to be amazing despite this book's dullness throughout the middle chunk of the plot.
I think this must be my least favorite book in the series. The thing is that most of the time I feel like in series the 5th books is a bridge between the 4th and the 6th.
Characters
They weren’t particularly interesting. Except for Adrian. I like all his time on page. He is such a fun character to read about because he feels shallow and cold, but he is actually sensible and sweet. But the rest of the cast seemed kind of off. Like not even Lissa was interesting in this book, actually she was pretty forgettable. Dimitri’s time of mourning and ptsd was kind of poorly written because it was given enough time to actually comprehend his struggles.
Plot
3 big events. That was it. Victor’s escape provides by Rose. Lissa and Eddie. Lissa bringing Dimitri back. And Tatiana’s murder. For the rest it was pure filler. Also the cold Dimitri relationship with Rose that was dating Adrian but there were obviously sparks between she and Dimitri. I really didn’t like that. One because as I said I kinda grew attached to Adrian who was ready to change and take some initiative for Rose and second because Rose-Dimitri were endgame from the beginning while write some unbelievable, trashy drama to keep them apart AND NOT EVEN try to emphasize the struggles they were going through and why they stayed away from each other.
Conclusion
Not so fun as the rest. It made me grab the next one right after, so I can finish it and not feel entirely angry of how the plot is going and I can tell I’m not mad for picking up the next. Highly recommend if you get through with this to move to the next one right away it really boosts the experience.

I really liked this book although reading the comments I thought I wouldn't.
I understood every emotion or thing the characters did, even if I wouldn't do it.
It's a great series.
