I originally was read this 20+ years ago in Elementary School. It’s a seemingly simple story, but one that really will stick with you.

I decided to reread it and it only took me about an hour but I still love it.

Its value is not in the plot, per se, but more in the opportunities of thought that it generates. It is creative and you’ll think it is simple enough to forget but it is just one of those stories that sticks with you even if you don’t really get why.

I’m not the only one still thinking about it years later (look at the reviews across all the editions) and I think that alone makes this worth the read.

Even after reading the first chapter of this book, I had no idea what it was about or what was in store. It's a beautifully quiet science fiction novel that I would have positively adored as a child - but one that doesn't quite hold up now. I still, however, gave it to my brother to read, as I think he'll really like it. (I did).

I know this is a children’s book, but it loses half a star for ending just when things were getting good.

This is another one of those 'gems' from my childhood. Once again, however, it's a gem I don't really remember with too much detail. However, I enjoyed it, and have finally remembered the title. I'm awful when it comes to titles...

Reread of this book which I remember from when I was a child and which has stuck with me. It’s very strange rereading as an adult in “the future” because it feels like it was definitely not written with the idea that technology had progressed much beyond the 80s. Interesting if you have a very specific enjoyment/kink in books, which for me is “setting up house”: that is, people in a new home or place, and how they set up their home to make it livable for them. Usually lots of shopping if modern, and building and planting if it’s old-fashioned. This is old-fashioned pretending to be modern and it fits my book-kink perfectly.

It is a decent children's book but it feels very dated and does not make sense to me reading as an adult.

I just had a crazy weird flashback to my childhood and this book CONFUSING THE SHIT OUT OF ME but it's stuck with me for a long time, popping up in my memories every few years and I only just now was able to google enough to figure out what the book was even called. I might go grab this for cheap on Amazon or something sometime because I'm curious just how much I remember from it.
