I just read 600 pages of absolutely no discernible plot wtf
Interesting world, felt like I didn't know what was going on most of the time but in a good way. Quite long and maybe a bit too long but good to set the stage. Got more into it from about a 3rd in.

One star solely for Lin. Even though the book starts off strong with the premise, it just never takes off. Nothing. Literally nothing happens over 500 pages. Stakes are just too low for me to actually care. Just a utter waste of time.

hard to put this one into words— my best attempt is a mix between Six of Crows & the Lies of Locke Lamora. Obsessed w cassie claire’s character writing as always. Can’t say that I felt there was much of a plot but also at the same time after the 33% mark I was absolutely sucked in and gobbling up whatever was happening. Definitely has 1st book in a duology syndrome if you know what I mean… left me with more questions than answers.
one (stupid and personally embarassing) critique i have is that the chapter lengths were too long. I guess I get it stylistically but for a 650+ page book to only have abt 20 chapters is crazy work nowadays! for some reason it made it really hard for me to get into it at first because the first 2 chapters alone took me like 40 minutes to read… THATS A LOT OF TIME FOR INTRO AND BACKSTORY!! Before ANY crumbs of plot to keep me interested get dropped! Anyways that’s my -1 star reasoning otherwise this is a 9/10 for me
