What a frustrating read! The subject matter seems fascinating and the author sometimes stumbles upon some interesting points, but this book lacks analytical depth. Perhaps if she had discovered Naomi Wolf before the last chapter there could have been a thorough discussion about the differences between the oppression of women in the east and in the west. Why didn't she delve into the question of orientalism instead of spending so many pages on Jacques's (if this man is real he's probably a serial killer) creepy ogling of paintings?
The author also makes sweeping generalizations without presenting proper research to back up her claims. The most infuriating part was when the author claims that within the western style of oppression "no blood needs to be spilled". Considering how women all over the world, also in the west, are still physically and sexually abused, and even killed, this is just a ridiculous statement.
However, if you read this as a satire of western white feminism, then it's 5/5.
