Eh, it was a decent horror comic. But honestly nothing really special to write home about. I can't say it was bad but it just didn't get me excited. If you can't handle gore skip this one. But if you dont mind some gruesome art and chilling story I would reccomend it.
You ever get that weird feeling something is watching you during a hike in the woods?
Don't worry about it, if you haven't pissed anyone off lately.
The visuals are fantastic and creepy. The story was very typical horror movie-esque, but it worked for me. I was in the mood for something creepy and different, this satisfied.

In this cauldron you will find on part creepy, one part spooky, and a double dose of drama for an enticing aroma of fascination. While it may appear to conjure images of the dark and horrifying it doesn't quite deliver. It's a solid graphic, offering quite a unique re-imaging of the witches, creatures in the woods and the cult/worshiper type. The style is beautiful, giving us the dark foreboding with enough sharp clarity to push the horror into our minds. The main problem I found is I just didn't care about the characters or family at the centre of the drama. With that dynamic falling flat the dark happening they were fighting against didn't hit as hard as they could have.
As I said I found the concept and re-imaging fascinating and enticing, it will be interesting to see where this goes.

Really bummed I didn't love this book more, considering the creators.
Scott Snyder's true writing skill lays in giving good book description. I read his interviews about his personal feelings and thoughts that go into making a comic, how he gets a feeling in his life and just focuses on that and how it can relate to a story. This time, I just don't think it translated to page.
I never felt scared. I got the feelings of being helpless as a parent, but I didn't feel anything new. Not sure what I was expecting, really.
Dialogue is still great, story is probably good, I'm just being grumpy. Art is fantastic except for the weird water color splotches. Not a fan.

Rounding up from 3.5 stars.
Usually I love Hollingsworth's coloring choices, but in this case, the dark palette and the overlaid splatter prints really overwhelmed what was some pretty clean line work by Jock. The muddled art made the comic tough to read.
Gross, dark, and creepy, this story still has a gooey center with a touching, troubled father-daughter relationship.
