There's no way I can recommend this book enough. Who do I think should read it? Parents, teachers, medical professionals, social workers, any care giver, and anyone who cares about people and society.
Dr. Burke Harris has taken a subject that is heavily based in medicine and made it accessible and interesting for any layperson. Not only does she explain how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) affect our health and biology, but she also gives us an incredibly personal glimpse into the joys and obstacles involved in creating a community practice and an organization dedicated to education and healing.
I had never heard of ACEs and toxic stress before three days ago but I don't think I'll ever forget about it.

I want to buy this book so I can reread it whenever i want. It was that good.
This book introduced a new simple idea of how stress system works and it was brilliant.
I recommend it especially to people who enjoy developmental psychology.

If nothing else, please Watch the author’s Ted talk on this subject. This connection between childhood trauma and adult mental and even physical health is simultaneously mind blowing and makes perfect sense.
Dr. Burke explains all the science in really easy to understand language and metaphors, and I feel like we get a sense of who she is through her writing and we can’t help but fall in love with her!
This book is one of those that will change how I think for the rest of my life.
