A very simple and cute manga about a witch in training. This is one of my favorite animes just because it’s so adorable and actually pretty accurate witchcraft, even if the magic itself isn’t. I mean the lore and the practices are accurate, but spells and whatnot are different. It’s hard to explain. I just really like the illustration style and the simplicity of it all
A slightly odd teenage witch moves in with some relatives and... that's about it really. I LOVED the Harbinger of Spring character (I'm a sucker for creepy looking things with soft hearts), but the rest of this manga sort of gently baffled me. It's not bad, it's just more slice-of-life story than the fantasy I was expecting.

Very very fluffy manga series, great for relaxing
A delightful slice of life manga--about a witch? Yup! Makoto is a 15 year old witch who has moved in with her aunt, uncle, and cousins while she finishes high school. Witches are typically considered independent when they turn 15, but Makoto's parents realize that it's not really safe or practical for that these days.
Her cousins live in a rural area which delights her because she finds different plants and can start a garden. The family is kind and welcoming. Kei is Makoto's age, Chinatsu is younger and is scared of Makoto at first but quickly becomes curious about witchy things.
There's not a lot of magic and no wackiness. This is really a story of a girl in a new place, and the family and friends that get to know her. Makoto says more than she's supposed to about witches, but there's not much world-building. I have a feeling we'll learn more about which side of the family Makoto's witchness comes from.

Flying Witch is a manga about a girl who is a novice witch and moves in with her second cousins while she trains to become a proper witch. It is a very simple look into life more than a fantasy in which the main character acts like a witch. In fact, her sister arrives near the end of the first story and comments on the fact that the only magic that has been done since she moved is when M- flew once on a broom.
The main character, Makoto, is not my preferred type of main character. I am drawn into stories where the characters have some depth to them, whether it is bravery, intelligence, a drive or a dream, etc. Makoto is a fairly simple character who comes across as ditzy, although well-intentioned, prone to getting lost, unable to understand typical human cues, and just happens to also be a witch. I wish that we had gotten more from the character because then I would have enjoyed this more although I hope that she gets some much-needed depth over the course of the series and this first volume is simple just because we are still getting to know the characters.
Overall, I felt that the story lacked a cohesive or logical plot and just jumped between various scenes and life experiences. I wasn't entirely engaged, but perhaps if there is more of a fantasy/magical element to the following books in the series I would enjoy them more. There are certainly other manga series that I have enjoyed much more than this one, even with similar ditzy main characters.
