“Whenever I pick up a book, it’s like an escape. For an hour or two, I get to be part of the book world instead of my own much more boring world.”
Wow. I think this is my favourite Freida McFadden book I’ve read so far. I was HOOKED.
Freida McFadden has a way of writing novels that not only surprise you with the plot twists, but makes you fees stupid for not even putting the veiled twists together.
From the beginning, I related to Amy. Out of all the other Freida McFadden fmcs she was the first one that actually wanted to get the hell out of dodge rather than stay in the scary place. This has bugged me with other fmcs because the whole time I spent wondering ‘why are they staying here?!’ Whereas Amy, from the beginning, wanted to leave and it instantly made the story more realistic in my eyes.
Over the 3 days of reading this book, I have been the jumpiest I have ever been. The final 50% of the book (of which I read in one sitting, this morning) I couldn’t put the book down. I had to know what was going on.
This would have been a 5 star read for me, but I did predict the plot twist. Having read a few of Freida’s novels, I feel as if I am finally understanding her writing style. But although I predicted the plot twists, I wasn’t annoyed about it. It gave me a weird sort of satisfaction to prove to myself that I knew what was going to happen!
Will and Cameron were written in such a great way that although you know the character has messed up or done the wrong thing, you felt sorry for them and related to them somehow. And the epilogue! *chef’s kiss*
I loved the way that all the questions that you’re left thinking got tied up beautifully in the epilogue, and the random callbacks that were on the last page! Brilliant!
Freida, you’re a genius. Another incredible story. See you in the next one! 4.75⭐️
