similar to its predecessor, defekt is a fast, enjoyable read whose themes and msg are real and relatable, handled w/ care by cipri. it's great to see derek's character development from a willing corporate slave to a realized, empowered person. the clones are great additions and symbolism as well. overall, this is an original, fast and fun read that serves as a funny takedown of capitalism and corporations.

Very rarely do I love the second book in a series more than the first. I enjoyed Finna, but Defekt really surprised me. This managed to be simultaneously heavy and hilarious; mixing commentary on capitalism and self worth with rogue toilets who occasionally go viral for dancing on the internet. An excellent time.

Well-written and with an even stronger anti-corporate message than Finna. More body horror than I prefer, but that's my deal, not the book's.

yes please.
I adore this book. I loved Finna as well and I can’t decide which one I enjoyed better.
- As my friends can guess Darkness was my favorite character lol, they’re sarcastic, funny and just plain cool.
- I also liked Derek’s character and his development, I related to him a bit.
- The anti-capitalist message wasn’t as “in your face” as in Finna, it still was there- just didn’t needlessly spell it out.
- One thing though — I need it to be longer!! I enjoy novellas but I would gladly take 50-100 more pages T-T
I guess I got attached haha
I had a similar problem with Finna, I understand it’s a novella but I would love to see another parallel universe or two because it was so interesting
- The IKEA setting never fails. I love IKEA
Um yeah this is more hectic than I usually write but there you go

What I loved
This is my favorite type of sci-fi, techy but with enough whimsy and weirdness to keep me completely intrigued even when the science might be going over my head. Just like with the first book, I absolutely loved the characters. All of them.  Nino Cipri really knows how to get a reader totally invested really early on and keep us hoping for the best outcome until the very end.
