I love this book! It was very well written. Wayne is hilarious. I also liked at the end how lots of strings were left open leading to future books, but it was not a cliff-hanger ending. A well-written book all around.

As usually happens when I read a story set in the same world of a previous work, I found myself missing the old crew.

Wax and Wayne are fun, Marasi took some getting used to, but I like her ok. I love the exploration of twin-powered mistings and getting to see the world progress. I found the overall plot intriguing but confusing at times and Wax as a main character is less interesting when Wayne’s not around to banter with. A little more country-western than I usually like in my fantasy books but overall it’s fun and I’m ready to keep going!

"Why is it," Marasi said angrily, "that small minded men must destroy that which they know is better, and greater than they?"

I always hear praises for Era 1 and some hesitation for Era 2 but I think this was still able to live up to the first trilogy. It was fun and as action-packed, although the mystery aspect was a bit expected and a little bit disappointing, even.

The easter eggs scattered throughout were fun though and seeing how 300 years changed one of my favorite worlds was interesting.

That said, a few things did distract me here:
1. the Marasi and Wax pairing, if the age gap wasn't pointed out at least twice, I wouldn't find it as distracting as I did (you can argue it's a custom in this era to marry someone twice your age, etc. etc.) 2. insurance fraud? Seriously?!
