I found the first chapter of this book hard to get into and actually considered reading something else but thankfully I decided to give it one last chance...
I'm very glad that I did because once the heroine got to her grandmother's creepy house the whole pace and tone of the book changed and I was hooked!
The fairies are creepy and malevolent, the tone of the book is dark, menacing and scary. I loved the different kinds of fairy (one lived in the teapot and made the teabags taste nasty for example and one lived down the drain in the sink and stole shiny things) and I warmed to the heroine and her science-mad male companion but for me it was the mysterious house that drew me in.
I'd probably recommend this books as a 9+ read if the reader wasn't of a nervous disposition and enjoys being scared by a book but 11+ is probably more the mark.
I've gone straight onto book two (the same evening) as I was hungry for more and thankfully I have the third book lined up on my bookshelf :)

Great writing, an intriguing plot and likeable characters, especially Fabian who I developed a soft spot for! I'm keen to keep reading this series.
The feeling of finally reading a book you have been meaning to pick up since the age of ten is one full of serotonin, especially when the book in question is a good one.
Can’t wait to continue on with the series, even though it may be a long time before I get my hands on the sequels.
