It was just a “meh” book overall for me though Maybe thats was because it was below my age/reading level.

It is a little odd, but this book made me really curious- especially after I got into it. I really liked it. It was like a serious fairy tale. The ending made me grin too. I dunno, it was really refreshing. Definitely a two-thumbs up.

While I appreciated the ambivalence of the fairies in the story and was grateful that there was no adolescent romance driving the book along, there was one significant inconsistency in the setting of the story. At the end of the book we learn that each individual who has the second-sight has a fairy guardian. Tanya's guardian has been working to keep her safe/keep her away from her Grandmother's... but it's her guardian's actions that directly led her mother to send Tanya there for the summer.

What I liked:
Main character Tanya.
Loved the fairy lore and added history to Tanya's ancestor
Gothic writing style
Loved the twist at the end.
I loved the mystery and the poems that are spread out in this book.

What I didn't like:
Setting: It felt like the story was set in the past but , it could have taken place in the present.

actual rating: 3.5 ⭐️

4 1/2 stars. Good pick for our Mother/Daughter Book Club. Fast paced & interesting, I enjoyed the legends of the faeries. Some parts were a little predictable, but overall I really liked it.
