Synopsis::

Pattyn has been raised in a very strong Mormon household but look beyond and it's walls and beneath the faith lies conflicts within the family, an abusive father, neglect. Soon Patton finds herself questioning everything she was ever taught to believe: A woman's role, love and even sex. After her family decides she's "stepped out of line" enough her father sends her to spend the Summer in the middle of nowhere with an Aunt she hardly knows. What's meant to be a punishment turns out to be the freedom she's always wanted.

REVIEW::

Oh.my.goodness.was.that.book.INTENSE!!!!! Wow! I've read a few of Ellen Hopkins Novels before and I've realized that I need to mentally prepare myself before emerging myself into one of her books because this author is a MASTER at her work! She not only writes her stories in a creative way but her details are just so descriptive that it hits home, you BECOME the main character, your lives are intertwined and even when you put the book down you just carry this heaviness with you. NO AUTHOR I've EVER read has been able to do that. So before I decided to pick up Burn I had to ask myself, "are you ready for this? Are you ready to carry those heavy feelings with you for a time?" The answer was yes, it's been a while since I've had a dose of Hopkins and I was craving another. I was pleasantly surprised when "Burned" wasn't depressing novel I expected. Yes, it deals with some REAL HEAVY issues, Yes it has many depressing and heavy details but for a nice BIG CHUNK of the book it was more than that, for once, it was light and beautiful. It spoke of love and faith and hope and acceptance.... and.then.came.the.ending.and.my.mind.EXPLODED! I mean as the reader we know something's going to happen, our main character, Pattyn, foretells it from the get go and throws in hints over the course the novel buried within those light and fluffy parts but the cliff hanger was NOTHING I had expected and for once instead of running to the nearest light hearted novel I can find to push out that darkness and heaviness that comes with an Ellen Hopkins novel I need more!!!!!!!!

Great book! I was not at all expecting the ending, but now I can't wait to read the next book. I felt Pattyn's pains and struggles with her identity throughout the book. I was heart broken for her when Ethan and her baby died, but I was not at all expecting her to turn to homicidal ideations.

I understand why this book was banned from some school libraries.  It has very serious topics that should be discussed between teens and their parents.

Another great work by Ellen Hopkins. This story follows pattyn a young woman in a Mormon family dealing with a violent alcoholic father. Once she gets in trouble pattyn is sent to spend the summer with her aunt where she finds freedom and true love. The story ends with an unforgettable twist that left me in tears
