If you’re in therapy, have been in therapy, wanted to be in therapy- you’ll enjoy this book. It was so raw and vulnerable in a way that took me 100+ pages to get used to, but that also left me with a lot of feelings at the end. So much humor but it doesn’t hide any vulnerability! I admire Christie Tate for being brave enough to share it all.
Group by Christie Tate is a free NetGalley ebook that I read in early October.
Overstressed suicidal author Tate goes to group therapy to sort things out. She's initially reluctant to share things, be asked questions, acknowledge a complicated relationship with food, then gradually sharing all her inner stressors, realizing her inner worth and reasons for living.

This is a very thoughtful book about group therapy. The one thing that struck me is that this doctor did not place boundaries on the participants having relationships outside of group. That is an interesting dynamic that I’m not quite sure about. I don’t know what the standard of care for Group Therapy though.

I didn’t love the techniques/approaches of the therapist in this book which didn’t let me connect with the material as much as I could have otherwise.

as someone who has also been in group therapy for many years i get it. but also its a little much, idk.
Unconventional. Courageous. Fascinating. Like other readers, I definitely questioned Dr. Rosen's methods, but this is a memoir, not a tutorial. Tate's story is full of truth and triumph.
Some of my favorite lines:
"When was the last time you made this much space for your feelings?"
"If you can't say no in relationships, then you can't be intimate."
"Would you like me to join you out on that limb?"
