I listed to the audio with Peter Dinklage from audible. Performance by cast was great! Felt like I was watching a play. Short, kinda predictable lol. Standard murder mystery format of "who done it" - good but not really my normal style of story

*2023 reading goal: reading the hercule poirot series by agatha christie*

this is the second book i’ve read in the series, since starting with the most popular murder on the orient express. i felt like it would have been better to read from the get go, and not after her most proclaimed and popular work, as it didn’t hold up in a side-by-side comparison. the characters were okay, but the plot lacked for me, and poirot came off as withholding of important facts so he could solve the case on a selfish timeline.

Was entertaining and fun, it kind of felt like the Knives Out movie. Poirot's behavior was a bit weird and frustrating at times, but overall, it was a pretty good murder mystery.

Mystery is fine but the narrator is annoying as hell. Lacks the punch of Christie's later books

Having read a lot of Agatha Christie books, I feel like when I do read them I am quite at home. I enjoy her style and she often reuses phrases and idioms throughout her books.
The Mysterious Affair at Styles was her first Hercule Poirot book, and who doesn't like Poirot? I can't say this was the best book by her that I've ever read, but it is fun to see the detective in his debut. I like that this book had some courtroom scenes, I love courtroom dramas. As this is an earlier book for Christie, I felt that the suspects were a little less fleshed out than I remember suspects being in future books. This made it a little harder to keep up with everybody, but as usual there was a good twist ending.
If you are a Christie fan and want a fast read, pick this up for sure.
