An interesting book about a dog and his feeling that the wild is calling to him. There are definitely some more graphic scenes (a lot of what we would think of as animal abuse) and some outdated terminology we would not use today, but it was a nice book about the pull between animal's loyalty to man and their instinctual desire for the wild.
Yeah I did cry over the dogs!!! They were doing their best and they got beaten and killed !!!! BUCK!!!! It felt less like he was answering a call of the wild and more like he had been so completely abandoned and turned away from civilization. Like humans rejected his civil nature to the degree that even under the best of circumstances he already a wild animal pretending to be civil for love. Which like who of us aren’t.
Unfortunately very dated in its portrayal of indigenous people :/ even through the eyes of a dog it was uncomfortable.

“There is an ecstasy that marks the summit of life, and beyond which life cannot rise. And such is the paradox of living, this ecstasy comes when one is most alive, and it comes as a complete forgetfulness that one is alive.
2.5 stars via audiobook - some truly beautiful passages, but stayed relatively disinterested overall. Sorry London.

The version I had had some additional stories with dogs by Jack London. These however are not nearly as good as the Call of The Wild. What would be a 5 star book is dragged down to a 4.
